County Line Orchard Wedding by Jordan Quinn Photography

This Indiana wedding at County Line Orchard is the epitome of casual elegance. Relaxed, charming and breathtaking, it incorporates everything from handmade trail mix favors to gorgeous diy rustic decorations to a fun tractor ride and my favorite moment – the stunning pics on the covered bridge! (I seriously had a Bridges Over Madison County moment when I saw those). Beautifully captured by Jordan Quinn Photography and totally planned by the bride AND groom, it’s the ultimate handmade, brimming with down-to-earth goodness, stylish soiree!

Wedding Vision

From the beginning, Chad and I were aiming for a wedding that was intimate, unique, vintage, warm, and really something that highlighted our own tastes. Our ceremony was very small, simple and intimate with our friend playing guitar for the ceremony. Not very traditional, but it so intimate and so us.

Bridal Style

My wedding gown was ‘White’ by Vera Wang, which I purchased from Davids Bridal. I wore simple gold shoes from Macy’s and a plain pearl necklace.

Color Palette & Flowers

Our color palette included a pale teal, burgundy (this was really only in the flowers and they ended up being more of a fuchsia color), white and gold. The flowers were peonies and hydrangeas. The peonies were supposed to be burgundy but ended up being fuchsia because of crazy weather we had this spring.

The bridesmaids’s dresses were from JCrew in a shade called Dusty Shale, which was the “teal” color we were going for. I would highly recommend JCrew! The girls just ordered over the phone and they shipped straight to their homes. No-one needed to get alterations. It was the easiest thing during the planning, and the dresses looked amazing on all of the girls.

Groomsmen

The groom and groomsmen purchased their suits from Mens Warehouse. They were a three piece suit in a light charcoal grey color. I loved the three piece suit with the vest because it looked nice and offered a more fitted look. Later in the night, when the guys took their suit jackets off, they still looked nice.

Wedding Reception

We didn’t like the traditional wedding venues with mirrored walls, gold light fixtures, and floral carpet. We wanted something that would be fun and inviting for us and our guests. We chose County Line Orchard in Horbart IN for our venue. The hand crafted cedar barn was very warm and rustic with a touch of elegance which perfectly matched our style and taste. Also, we could decorate the barn as much, or as little as we wanted. It didn’t need a ton of glam to be beautiful.

Wedding Favors

For a snack between the church and the reception, we handmade trail mix favors in burlap bags with felt ‘peony-style’ flowers on the front. Chad and I came up with the mixture of White chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, pretzels, craisins, pretzels, peanuts, and cashews. The bags turned out amazing. We also we had water bottles with customized labels. In addition, we offered guests freshly made and packaged apple cinnamon donuts from the orchard. These were to die for and were a major hit with everyone. A good reason for anyone to visit the orchard.

Decorations & DIY Details

They were very simple – lots of white, burlap, and natural colors – nothing too fancy. We did a lot of DIY projects and incorporated a lot of borrowed ideas. My father made a sign for the reception from an old wood pallet. We did our seating arrangements on old window panes. Adding the string globes to the ceiling was a great touch to the ambiance in the barn. All our centerpieces were DIY. The photo frames were from IKEA and we just painted and distressed them a bit. The wood cuts we sourced from a big storm. We went out through the neighborhood with a chainsaw looking for down trees and walked away with the best pieces. All of the projects really made planning a great time and people really enjoyed being able to be a part of it.

Wedding Cake

The wedding cake was made by Jill and Jacqueline Zientara – vanilla cake with fresh strawberry filing and a butter cream frosting. They mocked the bouquet’s by adding edible peonies and hydrangeas to the cake. It was gorgeous and delicious!

What was the size & budget of your wedding?

We had 150 people. Our budget went up and down, but the final cost ended up at about $21,000.

What made your wedding unique?

Chad and I planned our wedding together. It was an amazing experience and we were able to learn a lot about each other through the whole process. It made us a lot closer and gave us ownership over the whole day. We felt so proud of ourselves that we were able to accomplish something so big together.

What did you find challenging?

We were planning the wedding while being long distance, so planning meetings and finding the time to fit everything in got complicated quick. We became very reliant on a calendar, and learned a lot about planning.

What were your favorite moments?

There were plenty of awesome moments during the day. The most memorable moment was seeing Chad for the first time. The whole morning had been rainy and cloudy, and I was bummed that we wouldn’t be able to see each other for the first time outside. However, Jordan encouraged us to still do it outside. As soon as we got there the sun started to break out of the clouds, lighting up the exact spot we were in. It was amazing. They placed me in a wooded area they had found right outside the church and had me close my eyes while they brought Chad out with a blind fold on. When they told me to open my eyes his back was to me. As soon and I grabbed his back he turned and threw his arms around me, kissing me and telling me how beautiful I looked. He even took my arms and had me do a turn so he could see the whole dress with the most sincere grin/smile on his face. That was the absolute, most beautiful I have ever felt in my entire life, and he was the most handsome groom I had ever seen.

Any advice for Bride’s & Groom’s planning now?

Plan it together!  Most men are probably not that into doing the crafts and paying attention to the small details about the wedding, but it is an awesome experience. You learn so much about each other through all of the decision making and bouncing different ideas off each other.  I was so thankful to have Chad there to help me with all kinds of things like the seating chart and the timeline.  Planning it on our own gave us ownership over the day. When the day came, and we were able to see how everything came together, we were able to look at each other and say we did this!  It made us so proud and thankful that we accomplished something so great and so ‘us.’  Seeing and hearing the compliments from our guests was satisfying, but ultimately it was about what we set out to accomplish for our big day.  We wanted to make it genuine, intimate, and true to who we are as a couple.  It will forever be a day that we cherish.

Thank you Melissa for sharing with us all your lovely details. Congratulations on creating such a personalized and beautiful wedding day!
