Hunger Games Theme Styled Shoot – “After The Games”

Hunger Games Setting

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you must of heard about the latest book turned movie sensation The Hunger Games! So many fans were beside themselves to see the much anticipated movie release and Hunger Games mania is everywhere you turn. It makes sense creatives such as Elle Golden are inspired by this tale and decided to bring to life the story with their superb talents. And we are SUPER excited to share this amazing Hunger Games theme styled shoot  they produced with you today.

Not only did Elle and her team manage to plan the entire shoot on Pinterest & Facebook in secret, but created a stunning piece of work which inspired me to go out and buy the immediately! Their vision was to bring to life the love story of Katniss and Peeta ‘after the games’ and includes two amazing looks – their ‘everyday’ utilitarian meets hunter theme here in {Part One} and the upmarket ‘Capitol glam’ style theme {coming in Part Two}.

Although styled with an engagement session in mind, I believe this shoot will be the spark of inspiration for many outdoor weddings and woodsy style events (or whatever your little Hunger Games inspired heart desires really!) A huge thanks to Elle for sending us this beautiful imagery. Make sure you read all about her inspiration and how they put the shoot together below.

Photographer Elle shares: After devouring the Hunger Games books, I couldn’t quite imagine what life was like for Katniss and Peeta after the games. We know where they ended up, but how did they get there? So I decided to bring their post-games love story to life with an engagement session! With only 2 weeks to plan the entire shoot, we didn’t have time for pro stylists. I’m glad it worked out that way because I only had 2 intentions behind the shoot:

1. a fun practice session for me to try new shooting techniques and

2. inspiration to real couples planning shoots.

I used Pinterest to visualize ideas ( & Polyvore to create outfit collages. I gave Katniss & Peeta “everyday chic” & “Capitol glam” looks. Everyone involved was added to a secret Facebook group to stay in touch. It all came out the way I envisioned it, with one exception: I made DIY ‘sponsor parachutes’ using yarn, balloons, & glue, but it was an epic Pinterest fail! I hoped to hang them from the trees and have one contain a box with Katniss’s heart & arrow engagement ring, but it just didn’t work out. Use paper mache people!

I did Katniss’ hair & makeup myself. The save-the-date was custom-designed by a friend of mine. I just printed out the digital file at OfficeMax! Half the models’ clothes are from our own personal closets and the handmade bow, arrows and quiver are borrowed from a friend. The food is from a local grocery store and the vases, candles and tray are from a thrift shop!

So it doesn’t take much to make your engagement session a little different – “The odds are ever in your favor” with a little imagination! 😉

How amazing is this shoot and Elle’s vision?  If you love this as much as we do, be sure to check back in tomorrow to enjoy Part Two – Capitol Glam!
